# Soft Reset

## Applicability

* ecaOS 5

## Description

* The Soft Reset process restores the system to user's last saved state. Generally, the configuration that will be installed includes: Windows Networking setting, software version, license, configuration, etc.&#x20;

## Requirement

* USB Security Key or ECA Access Code

Duration required for completion of Soft Reset is approximately 20-30 minutes. While Soft Reset is in progress, the system is not usable. This incur system downtime. Please plan appropriately.

## Method 1: Soft Reset from System Manager

1. Ensure you have the **USB Security Key** or **ECA Access Code** ready. Every ECA has its dedicated unique key and cannot be shared with other ECA. Refer to [Enrol Virtual Security Key for ECA Access Code](/eca/operation-guides-ecaos-6/enrol-virtual-security-key-for-eca-access-code.md)
2. Launch **System Manager** from Taskbar.

3. The prompt for ECA Access appears. You can either:

   Plug-in the Security Key into the Security Port located on the front panel of ECA. Or, Insert the 6-digits One-Time-Passcode (OTP) ECA Access Code

4. **System Manager** will appear. Click on **Layer Management**.

5. Click **Soft Reset**.

6. Unplug the Security Key. The system will reboot into Layer Manager, and the Soft Reset process with automatically begin.&#x20;

If you want to cancel the Soft Reset, you may click **Cancel** within this 10 seconds. Then the system will reboot int o ecaOS.

7. Once Soft Reset process is completed (reached 100%), the sytem will automatically reboot into ecaOS.  &#x20;

## Method 2: Soft Reset using USB Security Key

1. Irregardless whether ECA is OS environment or not, insert the USB Security Key to USB port (labelled 'SECURITY KEY') on the front of ECA.&#x20;

2. Reboot the ECA from the Windows Start Menu. If the ECA is in Power Off state, please power up now.&#x20;
3. The ECA shall boot into **Layer Manager**.&#x20;

4. Press **Soft Reset** button.
