# Replace Hard Disk (for ecaOS 5)

## Applicability

* ecaOS 5

## Description

* Identify problematic hard disk drive (HDD)
* Replacing the HDD
* Initialize or format the replaced HDD in ecaOS

## Identify Problematic Disk

1. Access **System Manager** (refer [Access System Manager](/eca/operation-guides-ecaos-5/access-system-manager.md)).
2. In System Manager, go to **SmartLogic** ▶ **Disk Health**.

3. The DiskHealth will appear.&#x20;

4. Identify the health status of all HDD bay numbers. If the disk status show '**NOT OK**', it means it need attention. It is recommended to replace such disk.&#x20;

## Replacing the Hard Disk Drive

1. After identifying the HDD bay number, unlock and remove the front panel cover of the ECA to access the front removable (hot-swap) HDD.<br>

2. Remove the problematic disk you have identified in **Identify Problematic Disks** procedure. Double check the serial number of the disk (usually on the disk's label), and make sure you have removed the correct HDD.<br>

3. Replace the HDD into the same HDD tray. Make sure all screws are fastended and secured properly.<br>

4. Insert the HDD tray slowly and gently back into the HDD hot-swap bay.

## Initialize or Format the Replaced Drive in ecaOS

1. In Windows Start, type **diskmgmt.msc**. Then, select **Create and format hard disk partitions**.

2. **Right-click** on the replaced disk. Then, select **New Simple Volume...**

3. Press **Next >**

4. Press **Next >**

5. Press **Next >**

6. Provide a **Volume label**. Then, Press **Next >**

7. Press **Finish**

8. Verify in your application, such as Video Management System, have added this replaced disk as its recording path.
